Body Mass Index (BMI): Is used as a standard for body weight analysis; based upon the measurements of height and weight.

There is a correlation between BMI and the risk for heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure to name a few. Individuals with a BMI greater than >30 and over are more susceptible to the above mentioned risk factors. Use the BMI CALCULATOR below to calculate your Body Mass Index. Once your have determined your BMI, next evaluate your risk of disease using both BMI and waist size. 

To calculate this index of fatness, first divide the weight by the height in inches squared, then multiply the result by 705. A individual with a BMI of <24 or less is considered within a  healthy weight range The normal BMI ranges between 20 and 25. A BMI under 20 is considered underweight. A value of >30 or greater is considered overweight (Obese). Individuals who fall into the BMI range of 25 to 35, and have a waist size over 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women, are considered to be a especially high risk for health problems.
